It may seem a strange subject – how to choose a garden shed door – but this humble object is vital to your new shed or garden building. If you think about it the shed door is the only part of your garden building which is designed to move, there may be many parts on cheap sheds that move as well but they are not meant to, and so must be made to resist these moving forces for years on end.
In the most basic form the shed door is planks of wood nailed onto a frame. Hinges are attached and then the door is hung on your shed or garden building however you will find the weight of the planks of wood pulling downwards by gravity. This is why it is crucial that the frame has proper bracing designed into it to stop this happening.
There should be a minimum of three ledges, timber batons which are horizontal, and in between them there should be two diagonal braces. The braces help to carry the load of the shed door from the outside of the shed door to the side where the hinges are. - Continue reading --
The roof on garden sheds and summerhouses is a crucial part of your new garden shed so it is important that the right materials are used in its construction. There are several designs for a shed roof such as an apex roof, sometimes referred to as a gable roof which looks like an upside down 'V'. This design is very popular in Britain as it is quite attractive when situated in your garden. The basic design consists of two roof sections meeting in the middle of the shed or summerhouse. This roof can slope in either direction, certainly the better garden shed manufacturers would be able to offer this. The pitch, or angle on the apex shed roof tends to be in the region of at least 15 degrees up to about 25 or 30 degrees. This allows water to flow easily off the roof and away - Continue reading --
The legendary huts and garden sheds at Bletchley Park, where the dedicated men and women during the second world war worked helping to save the lives of thousands and also shortening the war, are themselves being helped by a massive grant of £4.6 million from the Lottery fund. This is a welcome change from the usual rubbish causes which they come up with.
The grounds of Bletchley Park was home to many of the garden sheds and huts which housed many workers however very few knew what their work was for. The huts, which were built quickly, could be cold and draughty but that did not matter - what did matter was the end results. Gathered together were the country's most brainy mathematicians including many masters of chess as the logic required in chess was a required thought process. To start with all they had to work with was basic calculators (nothing like what we have today) slide rules, pens and paper - continue reading
Visit our Garden Buildings Display site at Sutton Green Garden Nursery situated at corner of Whitmoor Lane and Guildford Road (A320 between Guildford and Woking)
With our display site you can view our range of buildings although at the moment we do not sell any wooden sheds or heavy duty workshops called the Alford but maybe in the future.
Just to say thanks very much, both sheds have now been delivered on time, and exceeded expectations.
I've now ordered three sheds via your website in the last two years - you offer a great service which I would recommend to others.
